| Man City v Everton
Following last weeks massive crunch game against Watford, Geoffs Man City will be glad to get back home to an easy fixtre this week. There aren't many teams that will go away to Watford and come away with anything this season, so a point was more than a good result. Further suggestion that City are going to be a force this season. Everton have fallen away from the teams at the top after a lightening start to the season. Having won the first two, they have subsequently lost the next two so this game is an important one for them to determine which way in the table they will go. Can they stop the slide towards the lower end? A key loss for City this week will be Leighton Baines who has started his City career very well. Everton lineup with a WHV formation and it will certainly be an interesting battle for the deputising left back against the speedy Bilyaletdinov.
Man United v Plymouth
Sitting level at the top of the table, Plymouth are really starting to hit their stride this season. Liverpool were the visitors to Home Park last week and promptly got sent home after a beating. Players are starting to settle at Plymouth and results are beginning to show the quality available to the manager for selection. United are still in a transition period and despite a spirited display against Charlton last week, the players are still trying to get used to Van Gaal preferred total football7 formation. They will be glad to get back to Old Trafford for this one, but it is still a very tall order to get anything from a fully firing Plymouth side. Jack Collison will be a massive miss.
Liverpool v Fulham
A clash of reality managers still trying to get the best of their sides. Both sides will be desperate to pick up the three points in this one. Both sit on the bottom three and the losers will certainly be facing a lonbg hard season. The winners in this one will at least get something to hang onto, hoping that their fortunes will change. Last week Fulham lost at home to Blackburn, whilst Liverpool come off the back of two 3-0 losses. Neither team is in good form, cold this game be the turning point for either of them?
Blackburn v Spurs
Both teams sit worryingly just above the dotted line and both could do with a win in this one. Blackbrn can boast the slightly better form having won last week, whilst Fulham gained a creditable point against Mourinho's Chelsea last time out. Both this fixture and Liverpool v Fulham could be considered six pointers despite being quite early in the season. These are the games where teams around the bottom need to win to get those vital 3 points. Who will come out on top?
Chelsea v Watford
Despite having the Special One back at the helm, Chelsea have made an unexpected slow start to the season, picking up only two points from their first 4 matches. Still without a win this season, they couldn't have asked for a harder fixture this week against the favourites for the league this season. Watford have been on fire, scoring for fun, and although they were slightly pegged back last week against a strong City side, their fans remain confident that there will be a serious challenge for honours this season. The worrying thing for other managers in the league is that there is also a plethora of talent waiting in the wings over at Ancona for their chance to stake a claim in the first team in London. Chelsea will do well to contain the firepower Watford have available, Mourinho will need time to put his mark on this team, but this game might come too early on his reign to produce any kind of result.
Sunderland v Newcastle
Newcastle fans will be disappointed with last weeks result at home to West Ham, but it is a long season and Newcastle certainly have enough quality to rise to the top come the end of the season reckoning. Sitting comfortably in the playoffs, a few wins on the bonce will certainly be enough to propel this side into the automatic promotion places. Sunderland come into this one on the back of a sensational and surprising away win at Soton last week. Having startted the season with three losses out of three, playing away against a team top of the table, there was no-one giving them a chance. However, that win will give then a massive boost in confidence. It is yet to be seen which Sunderland side is the real one yet....
Forest v Villa
Massive clash in League One this week with the top two colliding at the City Ground. Self-confessed Forest fan Rob Wilson certainly won't be looking to do his favourite team any favours this week. There were strong rumours at the start of the season that the former Boca juniors supremo would be taking the top job in Nottingham but through one reason or another he decided to head to the West Midlands instead. Social media has been rife with the reasons behind the decision, wages on offer, transfer budget, overall ambition, working with the eccentric Chairman Fawaz. I'm sure the manager will be asked the question in the pre-match press conference, so it will be interesting to hear the answer. Forest fans are already looking on enviously as Villa sit pretty at the top of the table despite so much change over the summer. Forest however, sit second in the table and this is very much a clash of title favourites at the City Ground. Forest have started the season very strong at home winning both games and this one will a tough one to crack for Villa, many pundits suggesting that the Villains may set up to take a point away from this one. Massive team news from the away side too, John Terry comes in at CB, to partner Rio Ferdinand. Doesn't get much more experienced than that, the Forest attackers will certainly have a job on their hands this week. Clash of tactics here too, the FAS style of Villa controlled by the excellent Cabaye contrasted by the SLO possesion style of Forest. An intriguing affair..... |

| Birmingham v Charlton
Brum host an Addicks team missing the inspirational Gerrard and an injured Henderson from their midfield. On a brighter note the travelling manager has Willian available to play alongside Welsh wizard Joe Allen both of whom have a chance to make a first team place their own. Waiting for them in the blue half of Birmingham are Rich's blues. RVP has started the season in imperious form supported by the flair and pace of Nani and the strength (and Afro) of Fellaini dominating the middle of the pitch and popping up with a couple of goals himself. Tom's defence will need to maintain their solid start to keep the home team at bay. Our reporters have picked up a breaking transfer story which reveals that a major Premier League team is interested in obtaining the services of England striker Danny Welbeck. Will he/won't he .....
With both teams playing the fast tactic and having an array of attacking talent this could be an absolute cracker with plenty of goals at both ends.
Thanks again to Rob. |
